After School Clubs

Spring Term 2020

KS2 Cross Country

This club is run by Mrs Bratton and is full every year. This is where the children get to show off their running skills, learn how to be efficient and pace themselves when running. They go running in the school grounds and around Norfolk Park. The children love this and look forward to the Saturday morning competitions throughout the year.

Y4 Girls football

The interest from Y4 girls to do some football after school was outstanding. The club filled up within a couple of days. This club was run by a Sheffield United coach and he said the willingness to improve their football skills was amazing. They turned up for every club and the improvement in the group was exceptional. This club was extended by two weeks as a result of their effort throughout. Two of the girls took part in the Y4 mixed SUFC competition held at St Georges Park. We hope the rest will have the opportunity to compete later in the year.

Norfolk Active Club

Norfolk active club is a unique opportunity for our older children within school to teach our younger ones. This club consists of 10 children from Y5/6 taking part in a leadership after school club to train up their leadership skills using the STEP process (Space/Time/Equipment/People). We worked on ways in which we can differentiate our games/activities to suite all children. We had the opportunity this year to have some Y2 children in the club to practice their leadership skills with. This worked really well as the Y2s had lots of run and Mr Marsh had the opportunity to give positive and negative feedback to the leaders. This will then help them run some clubs for the Y3 participants who will be invited.

Dance

Our yearly after school of Dance always runs in line with MOVEFEST. This is a wonderful event where children get to show off their dancing skills in front of 100s of people. This year’s theme was ‘Looking back at the decade’. We have a broad range of children who attend this club across the whole of KS2 with both boys and girls attending. This year’s dance was Tip Toe by Jason Derulo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijBXqoBlGwI). This dance was quick and intense but one the children were happy to master.

Y2 Fundamentals

The response for an Y2 after school club was fantastic. The club had to be spread over two different after school clubs to ensure all of the children who wanted to could take part. The club consisted of lots of fundamental movement games e.g. Crocodile Lake, what’s the time Mr Wolf and dodgeball tag. The club also had some emphasise on numbers using scores and game types that included the 2,3,5 and 10 times table. This was a real success and needs to be repeated in future years to come.

Autumn  Term 2019

Sports Hall Athletics

We take part in the Sports hall athletics competition every year. This is where 10 girls and 10 boys will participate in an athletics competition indoors. This is very popular with our pupils and we have had some recent success. Last year we manage to come 1stin our local cluster final and qualify for the LINKS final at Goals. Some of the events include the standing long jump, speed bounce and the 4x1 lap mixed relay.

Y5/6 boy’s football

Sheffield United will be running this alongside Mr Marsh. This is to prepare the boys for the cluster competitions and the Sheffield Federation School Sport league (SFFS). We usually have at least 20 boys that turn up for this with the potential for 2 teams in each year group. First round of competitions are played at Springs Academy.

Y4 boy’s football

Y4 football training will be starting in early September. The Y4s usually take part in training but for the first year we have entered into the SFFS league. This is exciting news for the boys and are very excited to play some competitive football.

Y5 basketball

This club consists of boys and girls from Y5 which will lead to the Sheffield Hotshots competition. This is a wonderful link between school and the community as opportunities are available to participate in Hotshots training out of school hours. We will work on all aspects of basketball to prepare thoroughly for the competition.
