Spring 1- Out of this World!
This half term we are learning all about outer space and our Solar System. We have thought of lots of questions we would like to find out over the half term and are excited to learn more! We will be using non-fiction texts and the NASA Science for kids website to answer our questions and find out even more about our Solar System. We will then use the information we have learnt to write our own class non-fiction book.
Here is some of the key vocabulary that we will be using this half term.
If you would like to find out more about our Solar System why not take a look at the NASA Science for kids website below:
Here are some of the exciting books that we have in our reading area this half term.
Maths
In Maths we are continuing to work on our super subitising skills. This half term we will be using these skills to help us find one more and one less as well as finding out what smaller numbers make up bigger numbers. This is what we call the composition of number, for example in 5 there is 3+2, 4+1, 2+2+1, 1+1+1+1+1 etc.
If you would like an introduction to what subitising is and why it is so important why not watch this video below by Karen Wilding.

Mouse and Bear
Towards the end of this half term we will start to learn the story of Mouse and Bear by Kev Payne. We will be learning some simple songs to go with the story as well as using the book for our Literacy and Maths learning. The story will then be brought to life on the 19th February with live music and narration from Polly Ives and the Concerteenies. This is an immersive performance where children will join in with the singing and retelling of the story.
