Attendance

In-Year Admissions

Norfolk Community Primary School participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions.  If a parent of a child on our roll wishes to apply for a transfer to another school, they must obtain a transfer form from the school for completion of Section 2.  The application must then be sent to the Local Authority which will process the application on the parent’s behalf.  The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days.  If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure.  Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed can be seen at https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/home/schools-childcare/apply-school-place.html

Families New to the City

For families that are new to the City, they should contact the Children Missing Education Team at ed-missingchildren@sheffield.gov.uk or 0114 273 6462 to arrange an appointment to make an admission application."

We expect all children to achieve a minimum of 96% attendance. We expect this because it is well known that missing school leads to children developing gaps in their learning. Being absent for just one lesson begins the formation of these 'gaps', missing information that children find almost impossible to catch up on and later becomes a barrier to their progression.

If your child is too ill to attend school, please telephone the school office. You must do this everyday they are ill.

We have a team of staff who support good attendance across school.

Miss Johnson, our Assistant Head Teacher oversees the policies and procedures in place to support good attendance.

Mrs Montgomery, our Learning Mentor supports families and leads attendance meetings.

Miss Clarke, our attendance officer contacts parents and tracks attendance for all pupils across school.

We have a number of procedures in place for celebrating good attendance such as:

  • Certificates
  • Badges
  • Raffle prizes
  • Class awards such as going to the park or having extra outdoor learning time

Each week we monitor class attendance and the children take part in a 'Super Mario' game where points are given for good attendance or the most improved attendance.

Monitoring attendance for pupils who fall below 96%

School has a legal duty to monitor attendance and ensure there is support in place for any children and families who are regularly missing their learning. School may need to:

  • Send letters to Parents/Carers to share that there child's attendance is being monitored due to initial concerns
  • Invite Parents/Carers into school for attendance meetings to review concerns
  • Refer families to the Multi-agency Support Team (MAST) to support with difficulties outside of school.
  • Invite Parents/Carers to meetings with the Local Authority Attendance officers, where attendance has not improved since the school attendance meetings.
