Our RE curriculum does not stand in isolation. To give learning deep conceptual coherence, our progression of units—fully detailed in our school's planning framework, RE Overview 25-26 new.docx—is structured to align directly with our six Big Ideas:
🕊️ Peace & Freedom (Autumn 1): Children explore how different religions and non-religious worldviews conceptualize conflict, cooperation, and the pursuit of peace. They study stories of reconciliation, religious leaders, and how faith guides individuals in advocating for freedom.
🌍 Sustainability & Environment (Autumn 2): Different faiths have distinct teachings on human responsibility for the Earth. Children explore creation stories and the concepts of stewardship, learning how believers apply ancient scriptures to make positive ecological choices.
⚖️ Equity & Social Justice (Spring 1): Our curriculum encourages children to discuss ethical questions of right and wrong. Pupils learn how diverse religious traditions and ethical standpoints command their followers to stand up against poverty, discrimination, and prejudice.
🤝 Diversity & Identity (Spring 2): Norfolk theologians celebrate our community’s vibrant tapestry of faiths and worldviews. By studying Christianity alongside other principal world religions and non-religious worldviews represented in Great Britain, children learn to challenge stereotypes and build immense pride in their own cultural and personal identity.
🗳️ Participation & Citizenship (Summer 1): Aligning with our rights-respecting school commitments, children discover the value of community cohesion. Pupils study how diverse faith groups cooperate to support local life, negotiate shared spaces, and work together democratically.
🍎 Health & Wellbeing (Summer 2): Belonging to a community of faith or shared values provides deep guidance for everyday living. Pupils reflect on how spiritual practices, moral codes, prayer, and quiet reflection build resilience and guide individuals in making choices that support physical and mental wellbeing.
